The COMER Laboratory’s vision is to develop alternative energy technologies that improve current thermal systems while reducing harmful emissions. Solid oxide fuel cell system design, oxy-fuel combustion membranes, and thermal transpiration based propulsion devices are some of the major focuses in this laboratory.

The primary research goal of lab members is to further the understanding and application of fuel cell combustion in the energy field. Combining a fundamental knowledge of thermodynamics, chemistry, heat transfer, and combustion allows for a wide range of projects related to harvesting, sustaining and converting energy. Ultimately, each research opportunity sets out to improve the way society utilizes energy while also building a more sustainable world.
