Fundamentals of Gas-Solid Flows: Application to Transmission of Respiratory Diseases SyracuseCoE is pleased to host Dr. Goodarz Ahmadi as the speaker for our May Research and Technology Forum. Professor Ahmadi’s presentation will cover topics including:
Ahmadi will close his presentation with examples of dispersion and transport of airborne respiratory droplets in indoor environments, such as offices and classrooms, in connection with the transmission of respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2. About the Speaker: Dr. Ahmadi is a Clarkson Distinguished Professor and Robert R. Hill Professor of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Clarkson University. He is a Fellow of ASME (1997), ASTFE (2019), and IAAN (2020). He received the Clarkson University Lifetime Research Achievement Award (2015), and the 2016 ASME Freeman Scholar Award. He has four patents, authored three books, and published over 850 articles in archival journals. He has also made more than 1380 presentations, including 30 plenary and keynote addresses at national and international technical conferences, and has given more than 200 invited talks and short courses at other institutions. He has served as editor, member of the editorial board, and/or editorial advisor for 15 international journals. His Google Scholar h-index is 86. His research interests include multiphase flows, particle transport and deposition, turbulence, flow control, granular flows, air pollution, flow through porous and fractured media, random vibrations, and structural mechanics. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, NASA, AFOSR, NYSTAR, GE, Corning, IBM, Xerox, Kodak, and Dura Pharmaceutical. He has held many administrative positions at Clarkson University, including MAE Department Chair (1992-1995), Associate Dean of Engineering (2003-2005), Interim Vice Provost for Research (2004-2005), Dean of Engineering (2005-2015), and Interim Provost (2022-2023).
