Syracuse University Researchers from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and School of Architecture have been awarded $1.2 million dollars from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a low-cost, high-accuracy sensor platform that accurately detects human presence inside residential buildings and adjusts temperature settings to reduce energy use. SyracuseCoE played a large role in securing the funds from DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) and will partner with SRI International, a nonprofit research center, to achieve the project’s main goal of developing technology that will not only save energy but money as well.
